This ongoing project, started in 2020, consists of over 130 watercolor paintings created on A4-sized sheets of paper received from various migration and bureaucratic offices. The works are a poetic and political response to borders, both literal and symbolic. “I will keep painting my ‘answers’ as long as borders exist,” Kulikovska states.

“The human body becomes political, even without its consent — especially when you’re from Crimea. I’m constantly asked, ‘Who are you?’ and ‘Where are you from?’ — and those have become the most painful, provocative questions,” says the artist. “Even though I have always represented Ukraine and defended its interests internationally, I have often felt abandoned and unprotected at home, particularly due to my queerness and bisexuality.”

This series, grounded in aesthetic, ethical, and political reflection, transforms the artist’s experience of displacement and identity into a powerful visual language.
