Opening of solo exhibition at Port creative hub.
«Folds of Reflection» is Maria Kulikovska's solo show at Port creative hub, where the artist's ten sculptures from the series «Folds of Time / Folds of Memory» and several new were shown. Also was presented a culturological research about strength of folds and drapery in different historical periods. Maria Kulikovska's «Folds of Time / Folds of Memory» addressed the topic of fragmented body, and artist's images resemble elusive phantoms and was creating a feeling of anxiety and admiring at the same time.
Since people learned to weave, the folds have drawn attention. The artists were bringing their visions of tissues' idealization for many centuries. They taught our eyes to admire folds and to use them more sweepingly than it's dictated by pragmatic. «Body, shell, carapace, blanket, skin – who does this belong to? Who is an owner of my or your body? Where is freedom kept? Maybe, in a box of folds, folds of skin, fate, power, life?», – the artist said.
Maria Kulikovska works with different materials, such as fiberglass, paraffin, resin, plaster. Her sculptures display her experience. Moreover, she is the model of works, which are created together with Oleh Vinnichenko.
